  • Centreway to be demolished!
    Centreway, the rundown defunct former shopping arcade on Ilford High Road has started to be demolihed. In its place will be 239 flats in a high rise towerblock. The complex will consist of a 16 storey (!) building with 163 one and two bedroom flats, a 10 storey building with 57 flats and a four storey block with 19 flats.

  • Ilford FC player collapses on pitch
    A reserve player for Ilford FC, Lee Glynn, 22, collapsed on the pitch and lay unconcious for 15 mins. When he came round he refused to let the paramedics take him to hospital.

  • Frank Bruno in Ilford for psychiatric tests
    Last night, Frank Bruno was being treated at Goodmayes Hospital, Ilford, for psychiatric testing. He had been under stress from personal issues, including breaking up with his childhood sweetheart. Police and medics had been at his house for some hours before he was seen leaving in the ambulance.

  • Childless couple appeal for surrogate mother
    A childless couple are appealing for women in India to act as a surrogate mother for them for £10,000. The couple are unable to find a British woman willing to help. They have had a lot of TV media attention about this.

  • The first Ilford Farmers' Market opens in town next week.
    The farmers market opens on the 5th and 6th of September at 9am on the pedestrianised part of the High Road in Ilford Town Centre next to Boots. There will be a wonderful selection of locally grown food on offer, with plenty of free tasters for customers to try and customers can meet the farmers and producers that made the food. The market has been organised by Reg Woda, Ilford Town Centre Manager in conjunction with London Farmers’ Markets. The market will be held on the first Friday and Saturday of each month. The first market will take place on the 5th & 6th September. Friday hours are 9 - 3, Saturday hours 9 - 2.

    When? The next markets will be: 3rd and 4th October, 31st October and the 1st November, 5th and 6th December

    Where? The market will be held on the pedestrianised pavement on Ilford High Rd, between Clements Road and Oakfield Road.
