  • Appeal on behalf of Multiple sclerosis sufferer Christopher Ogbechi
Parents Christopher senior and Pauline are hoping to raise £13,000 for their son, Christopher Ogbechi to receive stem cell treatment in Holland.

Christopher, 36, of Caernarvon Drive, Clayhall, was struck with the condition at the age of 21. He uses a wheelchair and his condition has deteriorated that he now suffers tremors that are now so bad he can no longer feed himself.

Stem cell treatment is not clinically proven in the UK but MS sufferers have reported improvement just days after treatment which involves inserting stem cells from donated umbilical cords into the patient's spinal area to help rebuild myelin around nerve fibres. Myelin breaks down in suffers of MS. Without the myelin coating, nerve messages cannot travel normally and become garbled or lost.

Anyone wishing to help the Ogbechis in their bid to fund Christopher's treatment is asked to call 020 8551 1255.

  • Searching for Robert Elston and Eddie Elston
Nikki Morris writes: "I am looking for any information on my uncles Robert Elston and Eddie Elston, they are half brothers with the same father, Edward Percy Elston, who died in 1954. Eddie was in the RAF, in his teens, Eddie married a lady called Doreen, they had wedding photos taken by Eric W Jackson, 15 Goodmayes Rd, Seven Kings 9060, they were in their 20's, and it was probably in the 1950's maybe early 1960's. They emigrated to America, I don't know if they came back, I think he went to work for an eletrical company. I am desperate to find any surviving relatives that I may have, or any information about them, if you know any thing at all. Please contact me."

A colourful photographic illustrates family history may jog memory.

  • Christmas 2005 lights switch on
For an event where the council's website promised something 'special' I just had to cancel my evening's plans to come along. When I got there a gathering, attendence figures boosted by a noticably enhanced police presence, was waiting in the cold and singing along to some cheery Christmas tunes lead by children from the Kenneth More Theatre with the lady who always dresses as a fairy also from the KMT. She was the star of the show as always.

This something special was sure to be good; not many celebrities command so much Police protection, aside from the Queen and J-Lo. It was until I spotted the policeman walking around clutching a big roll of blue Police tape did I wonder what exactly this 'something special' could be!

The event passed without incident, and without much else to note really, save for the little kids who were easily pleased by Exchange Shopping centre balloons on sticks distributed by the 'mall monster' and branded party bags, thje distributers of which being careful not to give any to grown-ups, exclaiming 'these are for the kids!'. These seemed to mask the pain of having local newspaper reporters one foot away from their poor faces firing their mega flash gun units.

Some lights seemed to be new for this year and the local paper sponsored Christmas tree has been dug out again. No celebs/snow machine/street entertainers/champagne in the 'mall' but the fireworks were quite good. One for the kids in future.

If you want the 'this spectacle was the best event i've ever been to' and 'how the mall monster saved my sight' stories, please see this week's local newspaper.

  • Redbridge Green Fair 2005...IN PICTURES

Are you interested in how the Redbridge Green Fair 2007 went?

The Redbridge Green Fair 2005 was today. A large mix of activities for children and adults, competitions, education, organic vegetarian food, stands raising awareness of green activities, campagners drumming up support and dishing out leaflets for various causes, and live bands on three stages.

[Click here to see pictures from this superb event]

A review from a fellow visitor:

Walking through valentine park I was drawn to the steady beat of drums and guitar could it be...? Ocean Colour Scene! Nope! It was the Stoves trying to sound like em!! Not bad appear to be quite a versatile group with many musical instruments being incorporated (sax, flute) as with all bands these days they were too loud and I think buzzing!!! moving on to the give and take tent cool didn't realize they had a stall like that would have contributed plenty! Anyway green awareness is good because we waste so much! The sweet shop in my opinion was too expensive but that's just me. The highlight for me were my first english fresh doughnuts wonderful! On to stage no.2 hmm Dr. ? and the Prescriptions not bad they seemed to have done this often never heard the songs before as with stage 1. Moving on pass some people who appear to think they are in the sixties. Its all good. Lots of organic food stalls :-( Got hustled in to taking poart in the wildlife quiz for 20p learned a bit so no probs and am thinking of a pond for the garden!! I was quite taken up with the clown nice touch and the colourful drummers who were way on the other end of the grounds were good. Teen band that's in the photo section get back to school and learn to speak clearly and err play music? Amidst the green awareness were the anti war and healing stalls breezed by em thus no comment. The time was right for stage No.2 Lizzie B acoustic guitar someone i recall felt sorry for her because there was nobody at the stage when she started but after all the noise before her who could blame the crowd but whats this into her first song the tent is filled! Some chappi decides to take a photo and our performer forget her words totally cool but the tent kept filling up and why you ask? Ever hear mum sing a lullaby? Soothing yeah? Well Lizzie B provided a calming melow smooth string of songs that made the green fair bareable to a point!! After all the soothing I could take my stomach informed me its time so I indulged in a wrap very very nice although vegetarian and as I was leaving I was forced to pass stage no.1 Steve Hooker was playing!! Legend I was told yipes sounded like the stoves all noise!! Why can't british music produce another Beatles? Anyway as you may guess exit was fast although the fact we had to pass the mobile toilets helped in the speedy exit. However I must say my first fair in England not bad very friendly people atmosphere no yobs in (plain) sight families together it was nice. Looking forward to the next... Be there!!! Be green reduce reuse recycle!! Do not waste!! Ciao
