• Project Safehands
  In September 2006 the Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhoods office at Barkingside police station representing the wards of Fairlop, Fullwell, Aldborough, Hainault, Clayhall and Barkingside invited over 1000 year 6 primary school children from 14 primary schools to take part in a drawing competition "PROJECT SAFEHANDS".
  
  The drawings were to be handdrawn on A4 size paper on a subject of "Personal safety and the safety of personal belongings", such as MP3s Ipods and Mobile phones.
  
  On 18th Nov 2006 the 29 winning children were treated to a trip to Leyton Orient FC as guests of both Barkingside Police and LOFC to watch the fixture LOFC vs Yeovil Town. Once at the football ground they were met by it's owner, Mr BARRY HEARN and LOFC players Aiden Palmer and Clayton Fortune. They were then treated to a hot and cold buffet in their own private room within the stadium. At half time their presence was announced on the ground public address system and a round of applause followed. At the conclusion of the match the children were provided with individual "Goody Bags" made up of LOFC and Safer Neighbourhoods pens, pencils, rubbers, rulers, pencil cases, and car stickers etc.
  
  The project was initiated partly to bring to the attention of all children involved the importance of personal safety and the safety of their possessions.

• Robert is out!
  Ilford's hope to win the karaoke show 'X Factor' is now out of the contest.
  
  On the plus side, this has saved him from future problems e.g. the stigma being associated with 'reality TV'.

• Robert Allen Ilford's X Factor contestant still in
  The headline says it all. This week he was not one of the bottom two like he was last week.

• Ilford's X Factor contestant still in!
  If you've been watching X Factor on ITV1, contestent Robert Allen, who lives in Barkingside, is still in the competition after another week.
  
  Robert has been making an impact on all the judges, particularly Sharon.
  
  This week's theme was Abba and the public and the judges (who still seem to have the deciding vote even after telephone votes??) have kept him in. All the renditions of the Abba songs were pretty dire and just embarrasing to watch.
  
  Personally, I (the author of this site) am not a fan of X Factor however Robert does seem to be the only one that can sing comfortably and puts on a good show too. Let's hope he wins it. (The only reason I watched X Factor is because I was not feeling energetic enough to change the channel - I hope not to repeat the experience)

• West Ham player arrested after assault outside Faces
  Anton Ferdinand, brother of England player Rio Ferdinand, was arrested on suspicion of assault following an alleged assault outside Faces nightclub. Apparently up to 15 people were involved in the disturbance which occured on 2nd October 2006.
