I know someone who is researching the history of greyhound racing. It the past as well as the regular greyhound tracks like Romford it was possible for a venue to put on temporary meetings. These did not need a licence from the local authority and the only formalities were to give notice to the police and that a maximum of eight such meetings a year (July to June) were allowed. He has found evidence that such a meeting taking place at Ilford FC (Lynn Road) in 1969 see https://greyhoundracingtimes.co.uk/2019/03/12/london-ilford/ Does anyone know anything about this and were there any further meetings? Sometimes these meetings weren't advertised much outside the greyhound trade press and they didn't last very long, sometimes for only one meeting. These sorts of meetings were called flipping meetings or flips (not flapping) and seem to have been more successful in rural areas rather than urban areas like London.

I found the Ilford History Society Website and e-mailed someone there. I got a reply that someone remembered the greyhound racing at Ilford FC but the meeting wasn't a success and there were complaints from local residents so the idea of having more meetings was scrapped.
