Interview partners wanted

Dear all, I am an Austrian teacher organising a schooltrip to London at the end of May. The idea of the trip is to get to know the city and its people and to improve the language. The students age is 16-18. As we are staying in Ilford we'd like to meet local people and interview them about some general topics so that later on the students can put together a documentation in a small book. It would be great if we could find a few people through this forum. The interviews are scheduled for Wednesday June 1 between 9 and 10 a.m. or from 5-6 pm. A big thank you in advance for your help and support of our project. Wolfgang

I only got back yesterday from 5 very interesting and tiring days in London or respectively Ilford. The students really liked Ilford, though they thought the area was a bit rough in the evening. They were very surprised that being young - that is 17 to 18 - meant not being able to go out or just having very limited access to pubs and clubs. Not getting into a normal pub was just unbelievable to them, but that made them aprreciate home a bit more. In austria this is totally different. Anyway, it was a good experience staying in Ilford the hotel (Lucky8 in york Road) was perfect. Next time over I will stay again in Ilford. Thank you.

Penalties for serving alcohol to under 18s can be severe and jeopardise the pub's licence.

I don't know about all the pubs in Ilford but the 'Spoon', up Cranbrook Road near York Road should be OK for the 18 year olds provided they can provide proof of their age - passport, ID card or driving licence, for example.

Note that it is important that the 17 year olds don't attempt to join them as they might all be refused service!

Thanks for the advice, the school trip is already over, but there definitely will be a next time! It was a good   experience for the students to see how difficult it is to get a drink or just to get into a pub, they appreciate "boring" Austria now a bit more, where it is less strict.
