If you live anywhere near Ilford Town Centre or have any sentiments for the residents there, then you might want to sign the petition below to try and prevent the development of flats on the Exchange car park.  Was made aware about it from a leaflet through my front door.

Petition and details at the following link which you need to copy and paste in your browser because clicking on it for some reason doesn't work Undecided

It doesn't work when you paste it, either  Error 404  Sad

The Ilford Recorder published reports of this scheme in October if anybody wants to go off and Google them.  No mention is made of where the people living in these, no doubt, overpriced rabbit-hutches will find doctors, dentists, schools or other essential services but hey, let's not worry about the details.

Unfortunately with the link above it puts an automatic space where the word 'exchange' appears no matter what I do.  You need to delete that space when copying and pasting.

This is a bug which has been plaguing the forum's software for years - probably always - and affects all URLs other than very short ones.

The solution is to create a tinyurl. http://tinyurl.com/

There are a number of similar tools available but this is the only one I know of which allows you to replace the usual randomly generated collection of letters and number with something comprehensible, which makes it much easier to copy it if necessary.

In this case I've created http://tinyurl.com/mallcarpark which redirects to the correct page.

To be honest, I haven't heard much about the place recently and I'm trying to remember when I last went past on foot as opposed to in a moving vehicle.  Must be about 6 weeks ago and I think it still looked as though the ground floor entrance area had the builders in but I've kind of stopped noticing!

The north tower has been mostly let or sold to a mix of permanent residents and short-let serviced apartments. You can sleep in a one-bed flat there for a little less   than £100/night plus VAT. Fully equipped kitchen and Sainsburys just across the road.

So far as I know, the south tower is still empty due to an ongoing dispute between the council and the company operating the development in receivership about payment of funds towards the agreed quota of "affordable" (to who?) apartments.

There is an Easy Gym operating in the north tower but i believe all the early plans for shops, doctors and a restaurant have long since been scrapped.  In my mind, the only real scandal is that this ridiculous project ever got past the Planning Department.

Why would anyone stay there when you can stay in a Premier Inn for fifty quid a night...at least you know what you're going to get.

That's funny, whenever I stay at a Prem Inn I always ask if Lenny Henry is staying.
They always say no of course, cue for me to say "Good, I can't stand the bloke".
Mrs N gets tired of it.

Not seen a leaflet but was aware they plan to put flats on Exchage. Also plan to knock down the Sainsbury's and replace with tower block with Sainsburys in bottom. Basically the planning gloves are off in Ilford, they can build as big and high as they like as we are one of these special development areas.
