I still bet that the council or some other social housing organisation will take it on and fill it with deserving people on the social housing list who will not be able to believe their luck.

Just to recap the benefits of Ilford - no school places in Ilford, no room on doctors waiting lists, no green space (at Pioneer Point), no swimming pool, and nothing to do in the shopping centre except, shopping, the cinema, the ten pin bowling and a theatre they are trying to close down. But we do have a lovely brand new library. Oh, and all the nice transport links out of the place.

There have definitely been signs of something going on in there every time I've passed it - doors open, lights on, etc.

Mind you, I wasn't impressed by the sign warning of falling rubble I saw the other day - a bit soon for the damned thing to be falling to bits, isn't it ...?

I walked past the front of Pioneer Point a couple of days ago.  The ground floor still looks like a building site.  It seems to be taking forever to finish it.

The whole building looks so out of place.

when I drive past it on the A406 at night you can see some of the lights are on...is that to make people think there is someone living there so they don't try to burgle it?  Undecided

Apparently it was open for the London Open House weekend!!!! They seem to be furnishing the lower 15 storeys or so as you can see the furniture through the windows - all identical. Looks like a hostel or hotel.

In another thread, Toby asked:

For those of us who don't live in Ilford what news of Pioneer Point?
Did it get finished,if so what do locals think of it?
Any scandals surrounding it.....?

So I thought I'd look back at some of the history and was surprised to note that over ten years have passed since tkane first raised the subject - http://www.ilford.org.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=disp lay;num=1128595748;start=0 and proceeded to thump the tub in favour of the development despite any argument against it.

I doubt very much if tkane is, or ever was, an avid follower of this forum but has obviously set up a rule to ensure that his cage is rattled every time the subject comes up - or, at least, he used to until his last post in this thread in June 2012 ...

Will he pop up again to defend this half built eyesore, I wonder (his membership status is still 'live') or has he finally decided that it is a lost cause and no longer worth defending?

personally, looks out of place and an easy target for terrorists, ......money will be kept on pumping into the place, and then the home office will buy it from whoever for an undisclosed sum then fill it with "people who will jump the queue in the search for accommodation"

The company that built it still in receivership and wriggling like hell to avoid the £7m planning gain to Redbridge. As I have pointed out here and others have agreed, flats are not needed in Ilford but proper family homes.
