We'll seeing as I am still living here I may find that question a little difficult, but hopefully not for too long now. When I do move I know I will miss the many good friends that I have made here.

I know with all the so called trouble it has had,im sure that people who grew up here,or lived here for a few years will soon regret moving away from the area, but as in many cases, you dont move just in a whim, you move for a reason!

It'll always be home to me and I love my visits. I did the whole memory lane thing when I last went. Went to Newbury Pk School, St Lawrence Church (there were still people there who knew who I was!), our old house (which hadn't changed at all) and, of course, the Old Maypole Inn (which has changed - a lot!!). I made poor old Phil walk all the way around Valentines Park (amazed that the penny rides were still outside the cafe)and then went to Bodgers and got lost because some of the roads are now pedestrianised. I had a brilliant time and intend to have a few more visits.

I miss the Ilford I knew, when you could go to bed without locking all the doors,in the summer we used go out all day and play and our parents never worried because they knew we would be home for supper. There were no gangs of yobbos ,roaming around looking for trouble,if we were in trouble, any adult would look after us if we asked for help and in the neighbourhood everyone knew everyone else,it was a great place to grow up in even during the war,we even used to play soccer with the young german POW's most of them weren't much older than us.If there is a heaven I hope it would be like the old Ilford.

| Every now and then i look in the distance in the direction of london, cos there are a lot of hills round where i live and think,...and sometimes i wish that me and the misses had moved back to ilford/romford,......then i wake up and realise i need to go home to bed cos i gotta be up at 5am the following morning!!! ...I think thats the best way of putting it.

On the Clive Bull show on LBC Radio last night they were discussing Ilford! Everyone who phoned in was moaning about the place and saying what a s.h*t.h.o.l.e it is now, which is true. I certainly miss the Ilford of old.

You will need to be feeling pretty strong, Cissy, if you haven't been to Ilford for 20 years, strong enough to face the shock you will have when you see the deterioration of the place. I was walking up the High Road a couple of days ago and couldn't believe the state of the paving stones, absolutely covered in black blobs of chewing gum, stains and other muck! Considering the council are forever replacing the paving and spend a fortune having it cleaned, it is in a disgraceful state.

As i work for the local council down here,it sounds like it is much worse up in your neck of the woods, but no matter how much council tax you pay, there will always be people who think they can do whatever the f*** they like cos they pay their council tax,and MOST of the people that cause the mess are unemployed and dont want to work and only fill out a council tax benefit form every 6 months.aka BUMS!!!!!!!
