Do remember the Lady Chatterly book going 'round the school after it had been banned. Gawd what a load of fuss about nothing ay. Wasn't there another Record Shop next to Lyon's?....Pete.

Backtrax is sorely missed- i reckon 90% of my CDs were bought there and i got all of my vinyl there as well. I'm surprised that no-one stepped in to help Backtrax- it should have been saved for future generations. However, if more people had gone there i probably wouldn't have been able to get the original Led Zep catalogue on vinyl. My first-edition Led Zep III is worth well over £300, and i'm not sure how much my white label copy of Led Zep I is worth but i bet it's damn high!

I'm afraid E Bay has killed off most of these quaint old shops...it's far cheaper for them to sell from home to the world rather than sit in a shop all day paying rates and waiting for the public to drop in. I've just bid on a double CD of Family ( remember them ?) in mint condition at a srart price of £3.50 and £2.70 postage which can't be bad.............Ady

That's a shame Ady. There was nothing quite like flicking through the records in the old style shops....Pete.

A band from the 70's...Roger Chapman was the main singer and had a very gravelly (?) voice, also wrote a lot of tunes............Ady

Spot on GS, but I like all sorts from classical to punk. The CD I'm bidding on is coming from Russia by the way!.............Ady

On the whole a very well written and informative account but it is a pity that it was spoilt by a few simple errors which you may like to correct. This isn't an exhaustive list as, when I re-read it, I may have glossed over some I noted the first time. Image 04. Ley Street incorrectly shown as Havelock Street Image 06. London buses only operate in Winston way one way from west to east and turn left into Handforth Road. No buses run east of this junction. Page 12, Col. 1, Para 2: "However towards the beginning of the 20th century, the market suffered from underinvestment" The 21st century, surely? Image 07. Ilford Lane East? I've never heard it called that before and, in any case, the picture was taken from the west side of Ilford Lane on the corner of what was then Roden Street. Page 14, Col. 1: "By the turn of the 20th Century," The 21st century, again. Image 09. Winston Way should read Ilford Lane. Image 10. 1988. Look at the age of the cars and the overhead trolleybus wires. Trolleybus services in Ilford were withdrawn on 18 August 1959 and the wires removed shortly after, so 1958 would be more likely. Page 28, Col. 1, Para 3: During a public Council meeting on the 28th of January in Ilford Town Hall - 2018? 2019? Page 32, Col. 3 Mayors should be Mayor's. Also, I'm concerned that there are no copyright attributions, particularly for the maps. Most mapping organisations guard their copyright very carefully and the maps in images 04,05 & 06 look suspiciously like Ordnance Survey maps for which I doubt you have a licence. There are some OS maps that can be used openly but not those - and the ones you can use must be correctly credited for legal use . I would suggest that you take a look here and consider redrawing the maps again.
