I was prepared to be cynical about it but I thought we did a pretty good job. I liked the fact that Beckham was given a role,he would have played his heart out for Great Britain unlike some of the present team who shunned the National Anthem. Liked the NHS bit, thought the kids did well Particularly liked the lighting of the cauldron. The right people actually lit it,I was expecting Steve Redgrave, but the decision to give it to future athletes was right. The cauldron lighting itself was spectacular, didn't think that could've been bettered. Liked the James Bond and Queen bit, shame she was shown looking bored and doing her nails when GB team paraded. Bad show. Not sure about the Industrial Revolution though. I thought maybe some people might struggle with that particularly Americans who sometimes take the credit for things they haven't done or invented. I liked the idea the inventor of the www. was included, nice touch. Didn't like Macca, time he gave up,his voice is not up to it now. All in all, pretty well done. Edit...nice touch to include Ali.

Personally, I thought it sucked. I watched it for 15 mins. then got so bored, I turned the TV over to another channel. From the highlights I've seen since, it followed the same boring theme. It really lost its authenticity when I saw one of the supposed "victorians" wearing an earpiece and as for the "maidens" dragging off the false pitch and hedging as they went off stage.......perleeeeeze!

Which was worse - the pathetic performance by Paul McCartney or the blingy outfits designed by Stella McCartney for the British team? I cannot believe the Queen agreed to do that James Bond bit. No wonder she looked so grumpy during the ceremony. Why bring in the London Symphony and then show only the infantile antics of Rowan Atkinson? For that matter, how does Mr Bean cheating to win a race tie in with the Olympic ideals? Sebastian Coe's speech once again proved what a pompous twit he is. The Olympic cauldron was good. Looks like something out of an old Hammer film about the occult. Overall, the ceremony made me embarassed to be British.

When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad, I'm better.

| No pleasing some of you, you run down Ilford now the Olympics, what next. My family and I thought it was a great opening ceremony, one that told a story rather than just an exercise in one upmanship. As for our Queen appearing as she did, shows she has a great sense of humour. Also it did not make me feel embarassed, in fact I felt proud.

Don't lump me in with the grumpies Pompey. I've switched sides and become part of what the BBC call "The Olympic Family "!!!!. The grumps can have their say but it's at odds with what the rest of the World press say...even the French and Germans thought it was good. Shame about the Yanks thinking Brunel was Abraham Lincoln though!

the worst part (apart from the chinky's making a fuss over nothing) of the whole olympics thing so far was the opening ceremony, if they took all the cr a p out, then the length of it would have been a more bearable 60 mins instead of 3 hours, and whats the point of having the main flame lit at midnight ??
